  • STEAM

    GRADES K-1
This week-long series of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities introduces young students to basic concepts of electrical, environmental, mechanical and chemical engineering. The students will start off the week by creating circuits with play dough and wires to illuminate light bulbs.  On day two, campers will design their own water filters. In addition to these individual design projects, campers will collectively build a giant volcano that can erupt.  Other activities include balloon rockets and a final fun project of making your own ice cream!  (Alternative treats will be available for campers with dietary limitations.)

    GRADES 2-3
This week-long series of STEAM activities introduces young students to basic concepts of electrical, civil, mechanical and chemical engineering.  The students will start off the week by creating circuits with play dough and wires to illuminate light bulbs.  On day two, the campers will construct wooden truss bridges while learning about tension and compression.  (For an added challenge, students can incorporate their circuits from day 1 into their bridges to light up the roadway.)  In addition to these individual design projects, campers will get the chance to collaborate on a group design project and build a giant Rube Goldberg machine.  This Rube Goldberg machine will be required to complete a simple task -- such as turning on a light or delivering a piece of candy -- through a sequence of simple machines such as pulleys, ramps, seesaws, etc. On the final day, the students will study the science of ice cream making and create their own sweet treat!  (Alternative treats will be available for campers with dietary limitations.)
